  1. BACKGROUND:
  2.  
  3. Frequency Valet was designed with PowerBook users in mind in order to
  4. provide a program suitable for use both at home and on the road.  The
  5. entire program size is intentionally small.  Your memory usage will depend
  6. on the datafiles you include with the program.  When used at home, it can
  7. provide
  8. computer control of the Drake R8, the Kenwood R-5000, and the JRC NRD-525
  9. and NRD-535 receivers.  With or without computer control the program can be
  10. extremely useful to shortwave listeners by providing a continuous,
  11. automatic update of broadcasts on-the-air at 15, 30, or 60 minute
  12. intervals.

  14. PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:

  16. HyperCard version 2.1 is required for the operation of Frequency Valet.

  18. GETTING HELP:
  19.  
  20. If you are a registered user of Shortwave Navigator, your copy of Frequency
  21. Valet will also be registered to you.  No broadcast datafiles will be
  22. included in the StuffIt file.  You will have to first create your own
  23. databases.  See the file "For SWNav Users" for help.

  25. FOR DRAKE USERS:
  26.  
  27. Once control has been established, a new menu is created in the menubar
  28. called "Functions."  The last item of this menu, "Set Speed," will bring up
  29. a dialog box which asks you to insert a digit from 0 to about 4, depending
  30. on the speed of your computer.  This function establishes a small delay
  31. between the transmission of characters to the receiver.  Suggest you
  32. increase the speed one digit at a time until the receiver responds
  33. correctly.  A 2 or 3 should be about right for most users.

  35. THE DATA FINDER:
  36.  
  37. The "Choices" menu opens a stack in a new window which contains a search
  38. button.  The search button offers three options, "BC Logbook," "Ute
  39. Logbook," and "Other."  Each of the log options will permit you to search
  40. for text strings in the log selected.  Found entries will appear in the
  41. scrolling
  42. field.  Selecting the "Other" option will allow you to search in any
  43. standard text file.

  45. GETTING HELP:
  46.  
  47. On-screen help is available in two forms by selecting the Help (?) button. 
  48. Select "Info" to open a scrolling field containing detailed help about the
  49. program.  Select "Help" to get on-screen help by moving the cursor over the
  50. buttons and fields of the program.  Information about each object
  51. will appear in the message box.
